We have a guy

I've been doing a lot of cold calling recently and a response I often get is, "We don't need IT support; we have a guy in house who's good with computers."

That's a tough one to battle on the phone, because what they're telling you is, "We don't value IT support" or perhaps more optimistically, "We don't know the value of IT expertise."

While having an in-house person who is good with computers can be beneficial, there are still several reasons why a small business may need outside IT support:

Diverse expertise: IT support companies typically have a team of professionals with diverse expertise, which means they can handle a wide range of technical issues that may arise. On the other hand, an in-house person may have limited knowledge and experience, making it difficult to handle complex technical problems.

Cost savings: Hiring an outside IT support company can often be more cost-effective than maintaining an in-house IT department. This is because an IT support company can offer a range of services at a lower cost than hiring multiple in-house IT staff members.

Focus on core business: Outsourcing IT support allows a small business to focus on its core competencies rather than getting bogged down in technical issues. This can improve productivity and help the business grow faster.

Access to advanced technology: IT support companies often have access to the latest technology and tools that may not be available to an in-house IT staff member. This can help a small business stay up-to-date with the latest technology trends and remain competitive in the market.

Scalability: As a small business grows, its IT needs may become more complex. An outside IT support company can provide scalable services to meet the changing needs of the business.

Overall, while having an in-house person who is good with computers can be beneficial, outsourcing IT support can offer several advantages, including diverse expertise, cost savings, and access to advanced technology.
